⚠️ Avoid scams
Never wire money or pay a deposit before viewing the place (or having a video call with the host). If a listing seems too good to be true, it probably is. Real hosts will always agree to talk before payment.
For renters
How do I know a listing is real?
Every host on subledu has a verified .edu email — meaning they're actually affiliated with the school listed on their profile. We also charge $9 to post a listing, which keeps spammers and scammers out. Still, always video-call or visit before sending money.
Do I need to pay anything to browse?
No. Browsing is free, and you can message hosts with any email. You only need a verified .edu email to list your own place.
When does the host see my exact contact info?
When you send your first message. The host sees your name and email so they can reply. Until then, your info is private.
Where exactly is the place?
For privacy, we show approximate locations on listings. The host shares the exact address with you after you contact them.
What's the difference between sublet and lease takeover?
A sublet means the host stays on the lease and you pay them rent. A lease takeover means you sign a new lease directly with the landlord. Both are common — check the listing to see which one is offered.
Can I get notified when new listings are posted?
Yes — sign up and save a search with your filters (school, dates, price). We'll email you when new matches appear. You can also subscribe to a school directly from the homepage.
For hosts (people listing)
How much does it cost to list?
$9 one-time fee. No commission, no surcharges. Your listing stays live until your end date or until you remove it.
Can I sublet if my lease doesn't allow it?
Check your lease. Most leases allow subletting with landlord permission, but some don't. If you're not sure, ask your landlord first — getting caught subletting against your lease can cost you the security deposit or worse.
How do I get paid?
You arrange payment directly with the renter (Venmo, Zelle, check, etc.). subledu doesn't handle rent payments — we just connect you with people.
Can I edit or remove my listing?
Yes — go to your dashboard. You can update prices, dates, photos, or delete the listing entirely.
What if my plans change?
Just delete or update your listing. You can extend the end date if you need a longer sublet, or shorten it if you're staying longer than expected.
Is the listing fee refundable?
No, the $9 fee is non-refundable since it covers the cost of moderation and infrastructure. But you only pay it once per listing.
Account & safety
Do I need a .edu email?
Not to browse or message — anyone can do that. Hosts must verify a .edu email before publishing a listing. Random spammers can't make a .edu email, so every listing comes from a real student and the marketplace stays safer than Craigslist or Facebook groups.
I forgot my password.
Click "Forgot password?" on the login page. We'll email you a reset link.
How do I report a suspicious listing?
There's a "Report this listing" link at the bottom of every listing page. We review every report personally.
How do I delete my account?
Go to your dashboard → settings → delete account. This removes all your data permanently.
